How A Little Guy Out Performed The Industries Top Influencers
How a relative unknown entrepreneur beat out some of the industries most successful influencers in a $1.7 million dollar launch.
I want to tell you a story about a modern day David versus goliath type scenario of how I set out with a list of 1,000 subscribers, no team, & a small budget to compete against some of the most influential,successful & well equipped entrepreneurs in the world.
Now the goal here is not to brag or get you to tell me how great I am. My goal is to show you exactly what I did, how I did & reveal to you how you can do the exact same thing!
Here’s the backstory. I was asked to participate as an affiliate for a well-known influencer in the speaking niche. I was one of 150 participating affiliates. It was the“who’s who” of online entrepreneurs.
To say I was intimidated would be an understatement.
My first thought was, “just tell them no, that you can’t do it’. After all backing out would be less embarrassing then looking like a dud in front of some of the most respected online entrepreneurs.
After my nerves calmed down, I decided, “No, I’m going to do this, and I’m going to give it my best effort”.
Having decided I’m going all in on this, it was time to come up with a strategy.
I assessed my situation. List Size (for this niche) = Less Than 1,000 subscribers. Team Size = Solopreneur. Available Resources/Budget for Ads = $1,500.
The fear started to creep back up again! How in the world am I going to compete against these entrepreneurs with lists of over 100,000 subscribers, Full teams of marketers, copy writers, ad creators, & ad budgets of $5,000-$10,000.
I quickly squashed those negative emotions. I need a strategy. What can I do to give me a fighting shot to not completely embarrass myself in this competition?
It quickly became clear. I don’t need a fancy strategy or a marketing team. I need to keep it simple & go with what I know works.
So I decided I am going to do a One-Day Summit. It’s the most powerful strategy I know that can quickly build an engaged, quality list & have them ready to buy in less than 30 days. (Because time was also a factor here).

Affiliate Participation was for an online Speaker Training Program.
So I set up a One-Day Summit called “The Expert SpeakerTraining Workshop”.
I brought together 13 top speaker trainers, coaches &influencers. I advertised the summit with an ad spend of $1,500.
I brought in just over 1000 leads. (Keep in mind these are highly engaged & perfectly qualified leads interested in learning about improving their opportunities to become speakers & influencers).
I had 3 weeks after the One-Day Summit where I nurtured my relationship with my new subscribers, building more Know-Like-Trust.
Then exactly 10 weeks from the time of concept to the affiliate promotion start date I set out on my first ever “official affiliate promotion launch”.
Two Weeks later when the dust settled I was sitting on the leader board in Fifth Place!!
Only 4 other people out of the 150 influencers had out performed me.
I couldn’t believe it. I was literally beside myself. I was getting compliments, & “congrats” from some of the biggest names in online business. I mean think of the most “well-known”influencer you follow, yep they were apart of this launch! And some how I had out performed them.
Now in no way am I trying to say I am better than ANY of them, or even that I am on the same level as them. What I am saying is I had a strategy that allowed me to out perform most of them in this competition.
It was also more than just the respect & congrats. I also won over $30,000 in cash & bonuses from taking 5th place. That was on top of the $20,000+ in commission I earned from the sales I helped generate.
Return on investment? 30 to 1. I grew my list, created a great relationship with my new subscribers, established credibility with some of the industry top leaders & influencers & I made almost $50 grand!!
Again, I am not saying this to brag. I am saying it because YOU can do the EXACT same thing. You just need a solid strategy!
You don’t need a huge team, endless budget or a large list.
You need one simple but effective strategy that connects you with engaged people who are interested in purchasing the product that you (or someone else) are selling.
