Best Birthday & lessons learned

Best Birthday Ever! Sitting at the airport waiting for my flight to the Dominican Republic for an all inclusive week get a way & I look up and see John Lee Dumas & 9 other of my closest friends.

Then it hits me, holy Sh!# they are coming with us!! It was a surprise.   10 of my closest friends here in Puerto Rico surprised me by coming with me to Punta Cana, which ended up being one of the most fun trips I have taken this year!

Now if I look past the immediate awesomeness of the situation there are actually a few pretty important take a ways here that can help us be more successful in life & business.

Reason is this is all based on human psychology & happiness. Here are the immediate triggers that I felt from this amazing experience.

  1. Surprise & Delight
  2. Rule of Reciprocity
  3. Loss Aversion

(Now there were more but these were the main ones from the experience).   Quickly what these mean.

 

Surprise & Delight – by doing something that surprises someone you care about (or your customer) it increases his or her happiness & increases loyalty.

Rule of Reciprocity means that when we do something good for someone they have an inherent desire to do something good back to us.

Loss Aversion is we value loss higher than gain even if they are of equal measures.

Now you know I like to geek out on business & list building topics. So I looked at how this could be mimicked to impact in a positive light our businesses and customers.
