Pocket Aces Over Pocket Queens

Staring me in the eyes for what seemed like an eternity, he finally said “ALL IN”, as he pushed close to $1,700 into the center of the table.

Wow, he’d called my bluff. Now I was faced with two choices. I either fold my pocket Queens and lose almost $400 I had already put out on the table, or I call him and risk losing $1,300 more.

Poker & business aren’t dramatically different in this regard. In business we are faced with choices like this everyday.

Do I go all in and risk it all or do I take a short-term loss for a longer-term gain.

Unfortunately we see far too often that pride & ego & even “hope” can overshadow our intellect. We know we shouldn’t be betting “all in” with business unless we have a sure deal.

But I see entrepreneurs doing this all the time. Why? Because we haven’t found a safer, more secure solution that lets us get those predictable wins & because we want it all NOW!

This is also a reason why we see so many businesses on the brink of collapse. Going for the home run, grand slam, instead of just getting the easy win.
